This past week, I had the incredible opportunity to support CBS Sports during their annual Fan Fest at the Men's NCAA Tournament Final Four. It was an experience that was both exciting and rewarding, offering me a chance to dive deep into the world of sports broadcasting and production.

During the event, I had the privilege of working on both live and pre-taped broadcasts, helping with everything from pre-production planning to game-day execution. Every day brought new challenges, but also valuable learning opportunities that helped me grow both professionally and personally.

Key Aspects of My Role:

  • Supporting On-Air Talent: I worked closely with on-air talent to ensure seamless transitions during live broadcasts, helping them stay on track while maintaining the flow of the show.

  • Collaborating with the Production Team: I had the chance to collaborate with production managers, directors, stage directors, and producers to ensure everything ran smoothly behind the scenes. Working together to create high-quality broadcasts was a truly team-oriented experience.

  • Real-Time Production Assistance: On game days, I was involved in assisting with real-time production, making sure that talent was well taken care of, the equipment was in place, and the show went off without a hitch.

One of the most valuable lessons I learned throughout this experience was the importance of asking questions. In the fast-paced world of live sports broadcasting, things move quickly, and it's essential to ensure every detail is covered. Asking the right questions, when needed, ensured that tasks were executed efficiently and that no small detail was overlooked. Effective communication became the backbone of making everything run smoothly.

CBS truly runs an amazing operation, and witnessing the scale of productions like Fan Fest during the Men’s Final Four gave me a deeper appreciation for the behind-the-scenes work that goes into making these large-scale broadcasts happen. From managing real-time transitions to keeping up with the needs of on-air talent, I saw firsthand what it takes to ensure that such a massive event goes off without a hitch.

As I continue to grow in the sports production field, I’m excited to apply the lessons I’ve learned and take on new challenges. I’m particularly eager to expand my knowledge of assisting on-air sports shows, anticipating challenges during live events, and thinking ahead to create more dynamic, seamless broadcasts.

I’m looking forward to the next opportunity to continue building on these experiences and developing my skills in this incredible industry.
