This past week, I had the incredible opportunity to assist the communications team during the MLS All-Star Game and Skills Challenge, held at Q2 Stadium in Austin, Texas. Set on one of the biggest international stages in North American soccer, the experience gave me a firsthand look at what it takes to pull off a world-class event — down to the smallest details.

Throughout the two days of events, I supported key communications and media operations, including press box logistics, sideline media coordination, and serving as a photo marshal. One of my main responsibilities was helping manage credentialed photographers and ensuring they had safe and clear access while respecting player boundaries — something as small as placing bike racks can make all the difference in high-traffic areas post-match.

At times, there was confusion among the media about where they were allowed to be or what access they had. I took the initiative to communicate protocol efficiently, helping prevent further misunderstandings and ensuring a smooth experience for both the media and the operations team.

One highlight was helping ensure that local talent like Speed and other high-profile MLS All-Stars were treated with the respect and professionalism they deserve, especially amid the chaos of a major event.

What I loved most was seeing how every part of the operation came together — from placing signage to setting up post-game press conferences with the right mic placement and seating. These seemingly small tasks are what allow international and local media to do their jobs well and produce the kind of coverage fans expect.

Working alongside a dedicated and experienced communications staff in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment was eye-opening. I walked away with a new appreciation for all the moving parts that go into an event of this scale — and how important clear communication, planning, and adaptability are at every level.
